This is a rave-performance combining techno, despair, and family politics in a 200 bpm exploration of the carcass of democracy and notions of revolution. Follow Antigone as she grapples with how to do the right thing in a world gone wrong, escaping house arrest to attend her bachelorette, where she meets both her dead brothers and a pack of revolutionary jackals wanted for treason. antigone lives* explores the pressure on youth to transform themselves and society in a sea of displaced peoples and politics adrift in our *global village*.
The world premiere was commissioned by Residenztheatre in munich, germany and directed by Rikki Henry.
antigone lives* took Calgary by storm in a production at the School of Creative and performing Arts at University of Calgary before erupting in Toronto during RiserX, a collaboration between Toronto Metro University and Why Not Theatre at the Theatre Centre. In the fall of 2025, antigone lives* will premiere at University of Alberta.
